What is BOPP?
A well-versed plastic label material is BOPP. Biaxially-Oriented (BO) Polypropylene is what it stands for (PP). Biaxial orientation describes a production technique that stretches the film in two directions, increasing its strength and transparency. A versatile polymer, polypropylene is utilized in labels, food packaging, clear bags, and many other products.
BOPP is essentially stretched-flat polypropylene. With a method that stretches it in two directions, BOPP is orientated. The "biaxially-oriented (BO)" component of BOPP derives from this. The sequential tenter frame process, simultaneous tenter frame orientation, and double bubble process are the three methods used most frequently to create BOPP.
How is BOPP made?
Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film is stretched in both machine and transverse dimensions to produce molecular chain orientation in two directions. BOPP film is produced either by inflating a tubular bubble or by the tenter frame process, which entails mechanically stretching a thick extruded sheet by 300–400%.
This process, which is more popular than the tubular procedure, produces a glossy, transparent film. Biaxial orientation has a positive impact on a material's toughness, stiffness, clarity, oil and grease resistance, and oxygen and water vapour barrier properties. Impact resistance, low-temperature impact resistance, and flexcrack resistance all see significant changes.
